Cavanagh

Charles Cavanagh was born in Ireland in 1820. He married Mary Loughman in Seaham near Raymond Terrace. She was born in Queens County Ireland in 1810, a daughter of John Loughman and Mary Wall.

Charles and Mary settled at Wallorabba about nine miiles from Dungog and fifteen miles from Clarence Town. Four of their children were Elizabeth born in 1842, Dennis born in 1845, Charles born in 1848 and John born in 1850. Mary died in 1891 and Charles died five days later, both at Wallorabba.

Young Charles Cavanagh married Eliza Agnes McCarthy at Clarence Town Catholic Church in 1871. They moved to the Macleay River around 1873, settling at Mungay Creek. Their children were Margaret, John, Mary Ellen, Clarice, Ada, Charles, Ernest, Cyril, Eliza and James. Nine year old Eliza died in 1897.

In 1915, Eliza Cavanagh died and was buried at West Kempsey Cemetery. Charles died in 1933 aged eighty-five years old.

Margaret Cavanagh married Christopher Wheelahan who was born in Queens County Ireland around 1862.

The other three daughters married sons of Michael and Mary Ann Clarke: Mary Ellen Cavanagh married Felix Erasmus Clarke; Clarice married Augustus James Clarke; and Ada Florence Cavanagh married William Joseph Clarke.

James Cavanagh married Rosanna Mainey in 1914. Rosanna was a daughter of Timothy and Mary Mainey. Their only child Bernard was born in 1916 and died in 1918. James was accidently killed in 1918.
